Psychogeography

Psychogeography is the influence an environment has on our mind or behavior. It is the idea that the moment you step into a room you have an opinion on it. It is also how the space that we are in gives us hints as to where we should go or what we should do next. For example when going on a hike there is a path cleared for you to let you know this is the path you will walk on. Many paths will also use colors to indicate which path you are on and arrows to direct you where to go. An example of contemporary art that uses psychogeography include Giovanni Piranesi’s Labyrinthine Stairway. Some other artists that practiced psychogeography in their work include Andre Breton and Edgar Allen Poe. Charles Baudelaire is another important psychogeographer and his piece Flaneur is considered one of the models for today's group of psychogeographers.
